Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist

FAR Therapeutic Arts and Recreation is seeking a full time, and part time recreational therapist to join their interdisciplinary team effective immediately. Hours for this position will include small group school-based work and in-house individual sessions. The schedule will include both daytime and evening hours. FAR is also seeking a Director of Summer Camps, which would be an additional opportunity for the rec therapy position.

FAR is a community based, non-profit organization dedicated to providing a wide variety of therapeutic services to the special needs community in the greater Detroit area. Servicing Oakland, Wayne, and Macomb counties, the interdisciplinary team consists of art, music, dance, and recreational therapists.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Research, develop, and implement recreation therapy interventions for individual or group clients in accordance with their interests, needs, and abilities.
  2. Complete documentation for rendered services in a timely and professional manner including but not limited to initial assessments, session notes, interim reports, annual evaluations, and discharge reports.
  3. Maintain and care for supplies and equipment provided by FAR; request consumable supplies as needed.
  4. Communicate in a professional, timely manner with clients, their family and/or support staff.
  5. Make professional contributions with other therapeutic programs at FAR to promote and nurture the interdisciplinary team.
  6. Take part in large organizational happenings such as spring showcase, camps, community awareness events, and other fund-raising opportunities.
  7. Provide support for the ‘FAR Friends’ event as needed.
  8. Work in tandem with administrative staff to support registration, scheduling, and general communication with clients and their families.
  9. Acquire and/or maintain required training and certifications as outlined by the Director of Training and Compliance
  10. Attend all required meetings, trainings, and in-service events as scheduled.
  11. Promote a safe work environment by adhering to all health, safety, wellness and confidentiality policies as outlined in the FAR Therapist Policy and Procedure Manual.
  12. Maintain professional conduct reflective of the Standards of Clinical Practice and the Code of Ethics as outlined by the American Therapeutic Recreation Association.
  13. Maintain CTRS status.
  14. Possess basic computer competencies and a fluent, working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  15. If applicable: Hold a leadership position as Director of Summer Camps, further details are available upon inquiry.

  • Have a valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation.
